Sioux Falls - Dave Alpers Sr., 5608 W. Misty Glen Place, died April 24, 2003, in Sioux Falls.He was 50.
David O. Alpers, Sr. was born June 10, 1950, in Traverse City, MI, to Owen and Virginia (Fike)Alpers. He attended Leto High School in Tampa, FL. Following his graduation in 1970, he joined the US Air Force and served during Vietnam.He received his honorable discharge in 1978. He was united in marriage to Joyce Carney on February 10, 1973, in San Antonio, TX.The couple lived in the Philippines and Florida.In 1979, the family moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where he worked for Dr. Wyatt as a Physicians Assistant. He retired in 1992. Dave was currently working part-time at Fauld's Amoco. Dave was a talented handyman and enjoyed tinkering and building things.He also had a passion for cooking, and in his free time liked watching Tampa football.In the center of his life were his grandchildren.He cherished every moment spent with them.Fun-loving, Dave's outgoing spirit made it easy for him to make friends.His strong and gentle personality made him 'the rock' for his family and friends to rely on.Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Joyce Alpers, Sioux Falls, SD; son, David Alpers, Jr., and his wife, Carol, Sioux Falls, SD; Dawn Anderson and her husband, Cory, Sioux Falls, SD; 3 grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael and Bryson, sisters, Donna Carney and her husband, Kenneth, Tampa, FL, and Debbie Alpers, Tampa, FL. His parents preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, at the Valley View Chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 41st and Valley View Road.Visitation begins 2:00 pm Sunday, with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 Sunday evening to greet friends.

KIRKLAND, John W. `JW`, Jr.,
age 50, passed away April 25, 2003 in Tampa, Fla. Mr. Kirkland was born and reared in Tampa where he graduated from Leto High School in 1970. He was a mason, a member of the Baptist faith and an officer with the Florida Game and Fresh Water Commission and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for 22 years. He was preceded in death by his father, John W. Kirkland, Sr. Survivors include his loving wife, Ada Cecilia Kirkland; mother, Juanita Kirkland Logan; stepfather, Charles Logan; sister-in-law, Lilly Buchanan; brother-in-law, Donald Buchanan; niece, Amy Buchanan; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2003 at the Garden of Memories Chapel, 4207 E. Lake Ave. Tampa, FL. with honors by the Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from 2 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Chapel.
